Find your pour.

You do not need a bar cart or a cocktail book. Ice, a decent glass and something to top it with will get you most of the way.

True North is an aperitivo, which means it wants a little something alongside it. Ice first, always. After that it is up to you.

Three ways people tend to drink it, and four alcohol-free cocktails worth making at home.

The everyday pour

50ml over plenty of ice in a big glass, topped with tonic or soda, with a wide slice of orange.

That is the TNT, True North and tonic, and it is how most people drink it. Bitter, smoky, long and cold, and ready in about twenty seconds.

Short and neat

50ml over one large cube with a twist of orange peel. Nothing else.

Closer to how you would take a negroni or an americano, and the best way to taste what is actually in it. The burnt orange and roasted agave come forward, the woodsmoke sits underneath, and the chilli arrives last.

Built into something

It carries enough weight to sit where a bitter or a vermouth would. Swap it into a spritz, a paloma, a bloody mary, or pour it over cold brew.

Four to start with, below.

Worth doing either way

  • Use more ice than feels sensible.
  • Chill the glass if you have a minute.
  • Cut the garnish fresh.
  • Serve it in something you would use for the real thing.

At home

Four alcohol-free cocktails

All four are built around one 50ml measure of True North. Nothing here needs a shaker or anything you cannot buy in a supermarket.

Nomadic Smoky Spritz

Nomadic Smoky Spritz

The everyday one. Long, cold and bittersweet over plenty of ice.

Build
  • 50ml True North
  • 100ml tonic or soda
  • Orange slice

Method: Fill a large wine glass with ice. Add tonic or soda then pour in True North. Stir gently. Garnish with a large slice of orange or red grapefruit. Optional garnish: a slice of fresh ginger and/or a slice of fresh jalapeño if you like it spicy.

Nomadic Paloma

Nomadic Paloma

Pink grapefruit and agave, with a Tajin rim.

Build
  • 50ml True North
  • 100ml pink grapefruit juice
  • Agave syrup
  • Soda water or grapefruit soda, to top
  • Pinch of salt
  • Tajin, for the rim

Method: Rim a highball glass with Tajin. Add grapefruit juice and agave, stir. Pour in True North, top with soda or grapefruit soda. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

Nomadic Bloody Mary

Nomadic Bloody Mary

Smoked salt, tomato and heat. Built for a long lunch.

Build
  • 50ml True North
  • 150ml tomato juice
  • 10ml Worcester sauce
  • 10ml fresh lime juice
  • 5 dashes of Tabasco sauce
  • Celery salt (or smoked sea salt), for the rim

Nomadic Cafe Corretto

Nomadic Cafe Corretto

Cold brew over one big cube. The morning-after pour.

Build
  • 50ml True North
  • 50ml cold brew coffee (we recommend something floral, like Ethiopian beans)
  • 10ml agave

Method: Pour coffee over one large ice cube, add agave and stir. Add True North, then a sprinkle of large rock salt onto the ice cube. Express citrus peel and drop in as garnish.
